*Coming Soon - Argan Oil* and various other Argan based EcoCerted Moroccan beauty products.

This oil is known as Morocco's "Liquid Gold".  Argan oil is only grown in Morocco and the oil is still mostly extracted manually by the Berber women.  Each fruit also produces little oil, for example to harvest 1 litre of olive oil you need the fruit from 1 tree but to extract the same amount of Argan oil you need the fruit from 30 trees!  This makes the oil rare and very labour intensive to produce which is obviously reflected in the price.

The Argan tree is very important to the ecology of Morocco as its roots grow deep in search of water.  This helps to prevent soil erosion and limits the advances of the desert.  It also plays such an important part in the economy of Morocco that in 1999 UNESCO added the Argan trees to the World Heritage List.

What has to be remembered is that Argan oil has many health benefits that other oils do not have as much of.  The claims, furthermore, have all been proven through medical and scientifc research.  The benefits of this oil are due to its high concentration in fatty acids and vitamin E.  The oil comes in two forms; Cosmetic and Alimentary (cooking).  The only difference between the two oils is that the kernals have been toasted for the alimentary oil to give it a delicately nutty flavour.

The alimentary Argan oil can be used in the same way as any other oil or you can take a tablespoon per day or mix it with yogurt or dip bread into it, or any way you want.  It has been proven to reduce cholesterol and prevent atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries) and other cardio-vascular conditions.

The cosmetic oil has numerous benefits to the skin, hair and nails.  It is excellent for various skin conditions such as ezcema and psoriasis but it has more esthetic qualities too.  It is very good for diminishing fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks and brown spots caused by ageing and the sun.  It moisturises, nourishes, regenerates and activates the skin cells, making it a complete all round "must have" item for the skin.  It's secret is its richness in the essential fatty acids and vitamin E which acitvates the skin cells vital functions.

The oil can also be used on the body to aid painful conditions such as rheumatic joints, aching muscles, sports injuries or simply enjoyed as a relaxing massage medium.  Its firming properties makes it a perfect body moisturiser leaving the skin refined and very smooth.  It is the perfect oil to use from head to toe.

I am in the process of setting up a new website www.houseofargan.co.uk where you will find a full range of Argan products.  There will be a webshop so there is no need to come to my salon if you are not close enough.  Please bear with me whilst work is being done to the site.  In the meantime, if you need any advise please feel free to call on 01666 505580.

Please contact Susanne with any questions about any of the products stocked.
